I've just finished Lady Antonia's book of the doomed princess-cum-Queen(very very good), but haven't seen the film. I think I'll go this weekend. Anyone else seen it? I'm an afficionado of costuming and period clothing(and, well, plain old periods of history--pretty much all of them)so I feel certain that at least will entertain me.

Well, Our own Bizarro-Krypto Weet the pointer, has made a wonderfully fast recovery from whatever it was that was ailing him(we suspect sprained back-he's very athletic--usually--and does all kind of flips that a 6 year old probably shouldn't try).

under the weather

Few things as sad-looking as a sick dog. Well, of course, lots of things are really, but when the poor blighter is usually so peppy and goofy and uncontrollable and he's suddenly having a painful day, it's tough. The really hard thing with animals as with kids is that a)they're helpless and b)they don't understand why they're hurting. They just try to make the best of it. I hope I figure out what the trouble is with Weetie here. he seems to have pulled his back out, if that's possible.

On a wildly different note--have a wonderful weekend, all!

Idly doodling on the cintiq; my friend Dave D. took some video while visiting my horses at the barn; his 3 year old(well, almost 3)is quite a cowgirl--even if she doesn't see why she shouldn't rather be called a horsegirl. The end of the video has a shot that looks sort of like this...I'm just really thrashing around with the pen/stylus, and thinking of that shot. I'm wearing a really puffy vest, btw. ; )

I've been reading a fascinating and disturbing biography of a strange and talented woman, Dare Wright--the author and illustrator(via black and white photographs)of the book "The Lonely Doll". She was a very photogenic woman(looking fantastic well into her 60s!), and the bio is filled with her self-portraits...so anyway, here's a quickie cintiq sketch of Dare.

more Lilo and pal

Here's some drawings I did as suggestions for that "Stitch Has a Glitch" project from several years ago. "Quick and dirty", as they say, but eh! Don't anyone think I'm posting these as some beauteous examples, mind you--just to show some ideas.
The plot involved Stitch--AKA experiment #626--having a "sell-by" date that was getting close to expiring, resulting in his reversion to an unconsiously nasty meanie; the story crew played around with the idea of the "glitches" Stitch would have at odd moments and when they might occur. Here Lilo and Stitch are up late watching a monster movie(that part already in the story); I have Stitch glitching/hiccupping--Lilo thinks he's had too much popcorn, not realizing that his electrical charge has zapped the TV off.
The others are what happens when Stitch has a glitch that causes both him and his soda to fizz. The end gag was my personal tribute to "The Exorcist", if anyone remembers that scene. Click the drawings to see them up close(r).

Just for antikewl: reposted page of early doodles I did when working on the "Stitch has a Glitch" story crew. I posted this back in the early days of my Blackwing Diaries blog, too, but likely no one sees it now. What the heck, they're drawings.


It was one of those videos, but the story crew worked exactly as a feature crew does; we pitched out scenes and had a great amount of freedom to mess with scenes and/or the script(yes, there was a script). I loved working on this--I had fun and talented coworkers, and best of all got to draw these characters, some of my all-time favorite character designs(by Chris Sanders, of course). My scenes in the finished film are mainly the "search for Elvis's bench/inspiration" sequence, plus some other hula-related stuff, plus other things I can't remember now. It seems like a decade ago. Maybe I'll finally post some boards here...the trouble with that is that the panels are large enough that it'd require a lot of recopying to scan them.

You should be glad you're not in Los Angeles right now...

...because it's over 100 degrees in the shade here today. Ugh.
